The challenge of NaPoWriMo today  is based in the myth of Narcissus. After reading the myth, try writing a poem that plays with the myth in some way. For example, you could imagine that imagine the water is speaking to you, the narcissus flower. Or you could write a poem in which the narcissus berates the Kardashians for stealing their neurosis. Or a poem that comments on the narcissism of our time, i.e. beauty and body obsession, etc.

Here’s my take at it:

                                                      Poem: Narcissism of Narcissus

“Oh dear! I have been roving the world

In search of the most exquisite love

Will I ever meet someone as delicate as a flower”

Pondered Narcissus at the bank of the river

Cephisus, the River God, the father of Narcissus

Inept to endure the agony of his son

Sprinkled the magic of love in the river

And Narcissus fell mystically in love with the river

The most exquisite and ravishing

Narcissus fell in love with himself

Gazing his own alluring reflection

He found his true love

Amazed at his own beauty

He pleaded River God to unite him with himself

To embrace him in his arms

And let him experience heaven
