NaPoWriMo Day 16: Today we challenge you to write a poem of over-the-top compliments. Pick a person, place, or thing you love, and praise it in the most effusive way you can. Go for broke with metaphors, similes, and more.

Here’s to two people I love the most!

Poem: You light up my world

Darkness.

Despondency.

Anxiety. Uncertainty.

A strange silence echoing on Earth

But not here in my little world

Welcome to my family

Here two munchkins create havoc at the drop of a hat

Sadness and silence-

Two aliens in my abode

Dark clouds of ambiguity turn pale in a minute here

Pranks, smirks, tricks and leisure

These boys have found ways I could never discover

Like a ray of sunshine on a rainy day

They light up the room

With their innocuous presence

A sign of melancholy on my face and they know just what to say

“Mom, are you okay? Coffee? Can I help?”

Some chitchat, some telltales, and day is bright as ever

They always find something special in the most ordinary things

Being around them makes everything better

Hey my lovely kids! The reason for my heartbeat

You’re better than a triple-scoop ice cream cone, with sprinkles

You’re all that and a super-size bag of chips

You always know how to make me smile

Somehow you make time stop and fly at the same time

You help me feel more joy in life

You’re a gift to those around you

You’re one of a kind

You bring out the best in other people

You are the most perfect you there is

Thank you for being you,

Thank you for being there for me!
