The challenge of NaPoWriMo today is to write an elegy – a poem typically written in honor or memory of someone dead. But we’d like to challenge you to write an elegy that has a hopefulness to it.

Here’s my submission:

Poem: My Elegy For You

Dismayed by your ominous demise

I failed to control my tears and fears

How would I survive without your shade

What shape would my future take

Would this world ever apprehend it’s loss

The way I am lost at your loss

But the only solace I have at this moment

Is the fact that it’s the end of your pain

I have seen you die slowly each moment, each day

I have witnessed you cry, plead and pray

I know your suffering and your rage

So maybe you are liberated out of cage

Oh humanity! You were the savior of this world

But alas! You were maltreated and tortured

Exploited by acts, conduct and desires

You were stripped, raped, murdered and fired

Oh dear humanity! How pitiable are the people of this world

Oh dear humanity! This elegy is not just in your honor

This elegy is a cue for humans

To wake up, grieve and remorse

Oh I urge you dear humanity

To consider a rebirth

For this world would quickly doom

Without your care and healing touch
